Joel W. Lundeen, Records 1966-1981.

This series contains correspondence, music manuscripts, photographs, minutes and agendas, newsletters, articles, hymn texts, surveys, conference materials, reports, memos, and publications (including copies of the Lutheran Book of Worship and the Contemporary Worship Series). Two distinct sub-series of material were found in this series: Lundeen's HTC files, and records regarding general ILCW activity that Lundeen acquired as a member. Sub-series I: Hymn Texts Committee Records. This sub-series contains records of the HTC and the Joint Hymn Committee, which consisted of both the HTC and the Hymn Music Committee (HMC). The Joint Hymn Committee minutes are incomplete, but they do contain some photographs of committee members. HTC minutes are incomplete as well; they also contain a photograph (in the Minutes, 1967-1969 folder). "The Hopper" was a term used by the HTC for the listing of all hymn texts considered for the Lutheran Book of Worship (LBW). Each hymn was assigned a number. The folders are arranged by those numbers; however, the list is incomplete. Miscellaneous Hymns contains texts of other hymns that were also considered for the LBW but were not included in the Hopper. Basic Hymnal files contain text of hymns selected for the ILCW Basic Hymnal, which was the working name for the LBW. Final Texts files contain those hymns approved during 1976 for the LBW. Sub-series II: ILCW Records. This sub-series contains general records of the ILCW. Included are minutes of various committees as well as correspondence, memos, and reports collected by Lundeen. The Inter-Lutheran Consultation on Worship was the beginning of the ILCW. Most of the minutes in this sub-series are not complete. Minutes of the Steering Committee of the Joint Worship Staff, which was made up of Worship Executives of The American Lutheran Church (TALC), Lutheran Church in America (LCA), and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) are in this series. Also included are the newsletters Church Music Memo (which contains nos. 3, 4, 5, 17, and 19) and Worshipbrief, which was published periodically and for which this sub-series does not have the entire run. Correspondence in the sub-series is to and from Joel Lundeen as well as to and from other ILCW members, including Mandus Egge (Executive Director, TALC Commission on Worship and Church Music), Edgar Brown (Director, Commission on Worship, LCA), and Gilbert E. Doan, Jr. (a fellow member of the HTC).
